We are specialists when it comes to hiking! Our experiences span some of the best and most adventurist hikes on planet earth, from the Himalayas to Kilimanjaro to the Andes to the Appalachia’s to the Rockies to the Cascade range! You name it and we’ve hiked it! The beautiful feature of our assistance is that we have hiked each and every trail/route shown on our website. From first hand experience, you’ll know the trails, how to get to and down from the summits, signage and problematic areas along the way and best accommodations and transportation.
Again, our adventures in biking are only ones we have biked ourselves. Our road/touring bike adventures range from day rides (such as 30 to 40 mile rides) to 480 mile rides (such as St. Pied de Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain). Our mountain biking adventures include short highly technical day rides such as The Slickrock Bike Trail in Moab, Utah, to longer rides such as the C2C ride. The Coast 2 Coast ride is 140 miles long across northern England. It is known as the UK’s most popular long distance mountain cycle route.
The classic Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast walk across northern England is a favorite among our adventure seekers. This is considered England’s best hike. Come see what Alfred Wainwright mapped out for the world to enjoy! THE NEXT SUITE OF PICTURES ARE FROM THE COAST-TO-COAST HIKE IN THE U K.
ENJOY THIS PICTURE JOURNEY!
The hike is a point-to-point or Inn-to-Inn trek. Each night you stay at an Inn/B & B arranged for you. If you have an interest in national parks, quaint villages, self-selected physical challenges, enjoying “trail magic” and beautiful scenery, this may be just the adventure for you! Our hosts serve up great food including the "full monty," (the full english breakfast) usually served all day. It is shown here on our site.
The trail is a mixture of pastureland, footpaths, bridal paths, tracks, roadways, bogs, fells and moors. In places the trail is poorly marked as it is not a national trail such as the Hadrian Wall trail. We recommend that at least one trekker is familiar in the usage of paper maps and smartphone maps. It rains in this part of the world frequently, so some areas may be muddy and boggy.
This self-guided trek starts at St. Bees Head on the Irish Sea and ends at Robin Hood’s Bay at the North Sea. We recommend this West to East direction because the weather generally comes from the West. This puts the rain and wind at your back instead of your face. Additionally, all guidebooks are written in this direction. The trek is 195 miles long and is usually done between 13 and 17 days. The coast to coast crosses three national parks, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. It takes you through picturesque villages (such as Grasmere) and countryside of mountains, moors, fells and meadows.
After doing this trek ourselves, we describe this “walk” as a “hike.” It is not a “walk” in the park. However, this is certainly a hike that can be enjoyed by the first-time hiker to the experienced mountain trekker. Please keep your experience in mind when deciding on the number of days required to complete your journey. It is self-guided so you can pick your own pace and manage your entire adventure. In terms of elevation, Kidsty Pike is the highest point on the trail with an elevation of 2,560 feet (780 m). It is # 46 of A. Wainwrights 214 English peaks (known locally as fells). They all lie within the Lake District National Park in Cumbria.
